Be Filled with the Spirit Allen Pote

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts as you were called. Be filled with the spirit of love, and whatever you say and whatever you do, do so in the name of Christ Jesus.”

The words of this lovely anthem by Allen Pote come from Colossians, but they certainly apply to the Fifth Sunday of Easter.

Allen Pote ( b.1945) is a composer of sacred choral music, children’s musicals and a popular clinician for music festivals and workshops. Malice in the Palace (about Esther) and Rescue in the Night (about Daniel) are two of his creations that were performed here at St. John’s by our youth groups…and some of the tunes from those musicals became favorites that we continued to use in Sunday services.

Our choir members singing today are: soprano, Phred Mileski, altos; Sandy Loether and Nancy Lewandowski, tenor; Bill Chatman and bass Scott Konrad, and I played on the keyboard. Scott did the audio production and added the strings. We thank our wonderful musicians for recording and helping to keep the music going at St. John’s. Sara van der Horst is playing “the sheep” for us today on flute, and we are so pleased to hear from her. Sara continues in the Washington D.C area and writes that the cherry blossoms were wonderful this year: a sure sign of spring! Sara is the daughter of Rob and Karen van der Horst.
