Jonathan Folts, former rector of St. John’s and now Bishop of South Dakota. The twenty-five-year ministry tenure of the Rt. Rev. Jonathan Folts, D. Min., began in Texas and continued in Connecticut while he was the Rector of St. John’s, Essex, from 2004 to 2019. On May 4th, 2019, Jonathan was elected to be the eleventh Bishop of South Dakota and was consecrated as such on November 2nd of that year. The Diocese of South Dakota has the largest Native American (Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota) population in the Episcopal Church. Bishop Jonathan and his wife, the Rev. Kim Folts, now live in the booming metropolis of Pierre, South Dakota (second smallest capital in the U.S.), while their three children are continuing their post-graduate and college studies in New Hampshire (Cameron), Ohio (Garrett), and in Sioux Falls, South Dakota (Chloe).
