Our musical offering this week, Lift Thine Eyes, comes from Elijah, the oratorio by Felix Mendelssohn. Elijah, is the story of the Old Testament prophet and premiered in 1848. This anthem, sung by an angelic trio, appears after Elijah escapes to the wilderness in despair and prays for the end of his life.
This very familiar text, known as the Aaronic Blessing, is taken from Number 6:24-26. It was given to Moses to tell Aaron and his sons that they are to give the blessing to the people in this way.
St. John’s customarily supports the Southeast Child and Family Agency in August for a Back to School Backpack Drive; however, due to COVID-19 and health regulations, the way we help looks a little different this year.
This week’s musical offering is Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, played by guitarist Paul Loether, son in law of Bill and Helen Chatman.
