Christmas Eve | Thursday, December 25
10 a.m. | Christmas Service with Communion & Special Music
All are welcome for a beautiful, simple service of Holy Eucharist to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
The Feast of the Nativity is always a time of beauty and joy at St. John’s, and this year’s musical offerings promise to enrich our worship in profound and memorable ways. Our music for Christmas will draw from both ancient and contemporary traditions, weaving together beloved hymns and carols with newer settings that speak freshly to the birth of Christ. The result will be a celebration that is at once timeless and ever new, honoring the depth of our Anglican heritage while embracing the vitality of living sacred song.
At the 10:00 p.m. Festival Eucharist on Christmas Eve, our parish choir will lead the congregation in song, presenting anthems and carols that herald the coming of Christ with solemnity and joy. The choir will sing Peter Warlock’s exquisite Bethlehem Down (1894–1930), a work of luminous beauty that contemplates the mystery of the Christ Child’s birth, and at Communion the hauntingly tender My Lord Has Come by the contemporary British composer Will Todd (b. 1970). These works, alongside traditional hymns and carols, will deepen our prayer and lift our hearts in worship.
To further enrich the celebration, a schola of professional choristers will join us at the 10:00 p.m. Eucharist, lending their artistry to enhance the choir and congregation alike. The schola will also sing at the 6:00 p.m. Christmas Eve service and the 10:00 a.m. Eucharist on Christmas Day, ensuring that each of our liturgies is marked by the beauty and power of sacred music.
We warmly invite all members of the parish, along with their families and friends, to join us in worship this Christmas. Through scripture, prayer, and music—both old and new—we will once again proclaim the eternal message of Christmas: Glory to God in the highest, and peace to God’s people on earth.
